Stacks

A clean, fast kanban board that is ready the moment someone signs in. Every new user starts on a board already set up with To do, In progress, and Done, so there's nothing to configure before the first card goes up. It ships with sign-in, a database, and a polished landing page, all running on Yard.

Features

• Multiple boards: create, rename, and switch between as many boards as you need from the top bar
• Flexible columns: add, rename, reorder, and delete columns to fit any workflow
• Cards with notes: keep the title short and put the details in each card's notes
• Smooth drag and drop: move cards within and between columns, or drag whole columns into a new order, with animated placeholders and a card that tilts as it moves
• Touch ready: press and hold to pick up a card on a phone or tablet, while a normal swipe still scrolls
• Keyboard support: Enter adds a card, Esc closes what's open, and Ctrl/Cmd + arrow keys move a card between columns
• Autosave: there's no save button. Every edit and move is saved as soon as you make it
• Light and dark themes: follows the system setting, with a toggle that remembers your choice
• Private boards: each user only ever sees their own boards

Built on Yard

• Yard Auth: visitors sign in with their Yard account. Stacks never handles a password, and after the first consent screen, sign-in is silent
• Hosted service: the entire backend is a single fetch handler with no server to run or scale
• Database: every board, column, and card lives in the project's own SQLite database, and schema migrations apply themselves on deploy
• Pricing: a single free tier, so signing in is the only gate. Add a paid tier to start charging

Technical details

• Plain HTML, CSS, and JavaScript: no framework, no build step, no dependencies
• Custom pointer-based drag engine instead of HTML5 drag and drop, so it works on touch screens and the drag preview is fully styled
• Ownership is checked on every write, never trusted from an id alone
• One structured log line per action, readable with yard service logs, which records lengths rather than card content
• Bundled typefaces (Bricolage Grotesque and Instrument Sans, SIL Open Font License 1.1)
